Final week of Sports fixtures at Kent College for 2016/17

    Monday 14th

U12 Boys travelled to EIS Jumeirah for their final playoff games

    Results

    Kent vs BPA = Kent won 10 - 8

    Kent vs EISJ = Kent Lost 24 - 7

The boys got a tough lesson in how to keep possession and how to be clinical in shooting when presented with an opportunity. EISJ were very drilled and confident on the ball and we lacked the precision in passing that was needed to get to the basketball more often than we did.

    Tuesday 15th

U12 Girls travelled to Nord Anglia for their final playoff game

    Result

Kent vs Nord Anglia = Kent lost 20 - 4

This was definitely a game that needed to be watched, as the scoreline does not do the girls justice. Their defense was much more together and the girls we getting more opportunities to shoot than in previous weeks. This bodes well for next years leagues and with more exposure to the game, the girls will become more confident.

    Wednesday 16th

U14 Boys travelled to JBS for their final playoff games

    Results

    Kent vs CIS = Kent won 10 - 8

    Kent vs JBS = Kent Lost 9 - 2

Two very closely fought games against equally talented opposing teams. Our boys defended incredibly well but we just had one of those days when we couldn't score. I really hope this team have learnt from their first season as for some of them they will be playing in the U16 team in the first term back.

    Wednesday 17th

U14 Girls travelled to DBS for their final playoff games

    Results

    Kent vs AAA = Kent Lost 11 - 10

    Kent vs DBS = Kent Lost 25 - 9

We went to this fixture with 6 players as the year 9 players were out on a trip. The first game we should have won. The girls were 8 points ahead going into the last 5 minutes and then unfortunately made too many mistakes and allowed the other team to capitalise. The game against DBS was a one team game. They were very confident ball players and I question how they managed to be in one of the bottom playoff games, as they had 4 very competent basketball players that made light work of our team.

Our goal this year was simply to compete and learn from the experience. We had some great performances throughout the 4 teams and I really feel we learnt a lot about each other and have a much to be proud of.

    Semi Final Playoff Week

Unfortunately the results have echoed what happened last week. The league format for the playoffs, is where each school plays against teams that have had like for like results in the league, therefore the games should be pretty fair and even.

U12 Boys went to JESS and played a three way fixture night against JESS and WSO.

    result:

Kent 4 vs JESS 12 and Kent 11 vs WSO 12

U12 Girls won their game vs American Academy through default.

    Result:

Kent won through walk over and immediate progress into the finals week.

U14 Boys played host to DIA and GEMS Metropole in another three way fixture. An exceptionally tough fixture that was closely fought between all three teams.

    Results:

Kent 11 vs DIA 31 and Kent 5 vs GEMS Met 21

U14 Girls played host to DESC (B) and DC (C) teams. Three highly enjoyable and challenging matches for our Kent girls. DC and DESC have some very athletic and talented ball players but our girls pushed them and had each game competitive.

    Results:

Kent 13 vs DESC 18 and Kent 10 vs DC 20

U15 Boys Tapeball Quarter Final vs Dubai College

Kent went into bat first and scored 90 for 7 wickets. Unfortunately we gave away too many early wickets ,which put the pressure on our tail batsman. Despite all our best bowling efforts we couldn't see out the game and unfortunately lost by 3 wickets and 4 runs. The team have really development and progress and this bodes well for the NSL league and next years tapeball leagues.

U14 Boys lost convincingly to a determine JESS team

Another busy sporting week for our teams.

6 competitive fixtures with 4 games being played at Kent College.

    Monday 24th April

U12 Boys Basketball vs Uptown School

    Score Kent 6 - Uptown 38

This was the teams first competitive Basketball match in the league and one Im sure the boys will want to forget. Uptown are a very organised Basketball school and played very well. The Uptown team passed with precious and managed to catch most of the rebounds, which gives them a great opportunity to shoot again. The result showed our U12 Boys team that we have much more to do and need to be patient.

On the same night the U12 Girls played JESS (B) at Home

    Score Kent 0 - JESS (B) 18

This was a massive improvement for the girls from their previous weeks performance and you can really see the development and confidence in the girls grow with each game. JESS have been playing basketball together to 3 or 4 years now, so the result wasn't a surprise. With one more game to go, I have confidence in the girls and their ability to continue to develop into all-round ball players.

    Tuesday 25th April

U13 Boys Cricket (Tapeball) vs Raffles World Academy

    Score Kent 81 for 4 - Uptown 151 for 5

The performance in this game showed that the training the boys have been getting at lunchtimes from Mr Starling, is really paying off. The boys were much more confident in bat and sharper in the field. Unfortunately we still need to work on our line and length, when bowling as we gave away over 50 runs in extras through wides and no balls.

    Wednesday 26th April

U14 Girls Basketball vs GEMS First Point @ Home

    Score Kent 20 - GFP 16

Kent started the game with a 3 point deficit due to fielding 9 players instead of 10 however, this didn't deter the girls and if anything made them work harder. Quickly, through Trinity's amazing shooting, Kent were in front. Our passing and decision making was so much better than previous weeks and the girls were showing increased signs of confidence throughout the game. With more exposure to the game and training our girls will definitely continue to improve and have more performances like this.

U15 Boys Cricket (Tapeball) vs Raffles World Academy

Score Kent 103 for 0 - RWA 93 all out

Another excellent display of great bowling from Usama getting 3 wickets and scoring 34 from the bat. Shariq had to retire when he scored a very quick 40 runs. The two opening batsmen had an impressive partnership of 92, hitting 5 fours and 9 sixes in the 5.1 overs they faced. Hopefully, our bonus points are enough to get us through to the quarter finals.

Another action week. I have been thoroughly impressed with everyones attitude towards sport and with this, Kent College will continue to grow as a challenging competitive sporting school.

What an action packed week of Senior Sport

On Monday 17th April the U12 Girls played their first game of Basketball against Jebel Ali school.

Result: Jebel Ali School 35 - 10 Kent College. An unfortunate first loss for the Girls.

The girl's played well considering most of them had never played a competitive game of Basketball before,This was a good experience for the girl's and one that they will learn from and improve on. The overall message from the girls was "we need to be more assertive and aggressive when defending".

On Tuesday 18th April we hosted our first home Basketball game at Kent College. The U14 Boys played against GEMS First Point school in a great competitive game.

Result: Kent college 13 - 8 GEMS First Point

An amazing start for Mr Parkes and the team. Much to learn from and improve upon but in essence and good performance. Stand out players were Lorenzo Casale, who scored the most baskets for the team and Elias for his vigilant defending.

On Wednesday 19th April our U14 Girls Basketball team played GEMS Wellington Silicon Oasis and our Boys U15 Tapeball team played Jumeira Baccalaureate School.

Results: The Girls unfortunately lost to WSO 22 - 8. The girls were beaten by a side that have clearly played as a team for a few years however, they played well, held their shape and managed to get some great baskets against the run of play. Stand out performers were Trinity and Tindi in year 8.

Results: The Boys continued their impressive Tapeball league with another win against JBS. Kent batted first and scored an impressive 169 runs for 6 wickets. Special mention must go to Sami Maroof who scored his first, second and third four in one over. The positivity continued with the boys bowling out JBS for 67. This meant the boys won by 102 runs and 3 wickets.

What an incredible week for Kent College PE and Sport.

After the successful M&S Spring Camp, where the pool was in use throughout the entire two weeks, we were able to start the our School curriculum program. The team played very well during the match. I believe we were all quite stressed and worried at first when a player received the ball. By the end of the match, both teams recorded different scores so, we played an extra 5 mins and whoever team scores, wins. It was very intense and we weren't going to give up yet and so we scored a goal under 30 seconds. Overall we worked hard as a team and it was fun playing against Raffles. Andrea 9B

    U14 Girls Netball

    Vs Sunmarke School

THE FIRST EVER COMPETITIVE FIXTURE AT KENT COLLEGE.

The Girls were so excited to play a competitive match in our new sports hall. Sunmarke arrived nice a early to acclimatise to the very cold Sports Hall and looked very organised and ready to take us on.

The game started very positively with Trinity commanding the center and providing great passes to Andrea who then found our shooting pair of Isabella and Emma. Kent college soon got control of the game took an early lead.

After each quarter Kent had managed to maintain a lead, a small lead but an advantage nonetheless. In the fourth and final quarter Kent college were 2 goals ahead, this quickly went to 3 and then back to 2. This was the story throughout the quarter, where points were being scored at both ends, frequently.

As tiredness set in and the possibility of winning our first home match, the girls look anxious and started making little mistakes. This gave Sunmarke the opportunity to close the gap. With moments left on the clock, Sunmarke regained possession and scored the much needed goal to tie the game. Moments after that the buzzer went and the match was over.

A great league for our girls and an amazing feeling seeing our teams compete at home.

Senior DASSA Champions Swim Gala @ Hamdan Swimming Complex

This was an incredible opportunity to our amazing pupils to swim against the best swimmers in Dubai.

By winning our division Kent College Senior Swim Team earnt the right to represent the college at the DASSA Champions Swim Gala at the Hamdan Swimming Complex. The event was not a team competition but a chance for our swimmers to race individually against other swimmers from around dubai according to their fastest times.

The venue was awe-inspiring and really gave the students that real sense of high quality elite competition.

    KCD vs SRS

    U14 Girls Netball

The U14 Netball team travelled to School of Research Science for their second league fixture. They were very excited as had had their first practice in their new Kent College Sports Hall at lunchtime. This excitement lead to an explosive first quarter resulting in a 5-1 win. The SRS ladies were determined to bring the game back within their grasp but the Kent ladies remained relentless and fought hard to secure a 13-2 win. Kent's performance was outstanding, each of the ladies played out of their skins to secure this fantastic win. The improvement from their first fixture was clearly apparent with their movement, interceptions and communication on court being unrecognisably brilliant in comparison to last week. The coaches and surrounding Kent family look forward to enjoying their continued improvement throughout the season.

    DASSA FAB 5 - Athletics

    Results

U14 Boys - Each athlete won their field events and either came 1st or 2nd in their track events. If we had a girls team competing then the U14 Kent FAB 5 would have won the Division 4 competition.

U16 Team - Again we only had a boys team plus two girls. However, the performances from some individuals was incredible.

U12 Team -  The only time this week we had a full Boys and Girls representation. The teams competed very well with little to no training against schools that have competed in this competition before and with much large pupils to select from.

A great taster for the pupils in the world of Athletics.
